A boat exploded in Gloucester Harbor on Monday, July 17, putting two men and a dog in danger, according to the Gloucester Police Department.

Reports of a boat on fire near the Bylnman Bridge came in around 8:58 a.m., saying that people were in the water.

First responders arrived to find a boat that was engulfed in flames.

The two men who had been on the boat were pulled from the water and transported to Beverly Hospital, according to Police Chief Ed Conley. A dog was also rescued.

A Gloucester Police Boat attacked the flames and the harbormaster towed the vessel to shore, where Gloucester firefighters extinguished the flames.

The US Coast Guard helped manage the waterway while the battle was underway.

The Blynman Bridge was briefly closed during the incident.

Rehab 5 and Beauport Ambulance provided mutual aid.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Gloucester Fire Department.
